University of Tennessee offering course on stress

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Stressed by the holidays? The University of Tennessee is offering a stress reduction course beginning in January.

The eight-week course will teach mindfulness practice techniques to help alleviate daily stress, chronic pain, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression and other conditions worsened by stress.


It’s a mindfulness-based stress reduction course, which has been researched for 30 years. The method is designed to increase participants’ awareness so they can respond to situations with choice rather than automatic reactions.

Classes begin Monday, Jan. 16, and will be held one night a week.
