How to Make a Herbal Tea


 

Making a herbal tea

Generally, the herbal tea is made from leaves, flowers and other materials which are finely cut or ground. Active ingredients are easily extracted out from these materials. Just put 1-2 teaspoons of herbal tea material (from fresh material, if dried, put ¼ cup of dried material) into a 6-8 ozsize cup or other vessel you like, add boiled water and allow it to steep for 3-5 minutes. Keep  up to 24 hours under refrigerated.

Making a herbal infusions

The only difference between a tea and an infusion is the length of steeping time. Herbal infusion, which extract out more ingredients, should be placed to steep for a minimum of twenty minutes.

Making a herbal decoction

Decoction is an extraction method with the help of heating. Materials are from bark, roots, seeds, twigs and berries etc. It is not easy to extract out active ingredients from these materials. Put 1-3 tablespoons of cut herb, seed, root, bark etc. into a pot containing 16-32 oz of fresh water and allow it steep for at least 5-10 minutes, then heat the pot to water boiling and simmer for 10-30 minutes. Strain and filter the mixture to get the clear tea. Keep up to 72 hours under refrigerated.

Some herbal tea recipes:

Relieve Depression or Improve Sleep

  • 1 1/2 ounceSt. John’swort
  • 1 ounce lemon-balm leaves
  • 1 ounce valerian

Place 1 teaspoon of the herb mixture in a cup of boiling water. Take a cup of this tea before going to bed at night for several weeks. Steep the tea for 10 minutes, strain before drinking.

Relieve Cough

  • 1 1/2 ounce ofSt. John’swort
  • 2/3 ounce thyme
  • 2/3 ounce linden flowers

Place 1 teaspoon of the herb mixture in a cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, strain before drinking.

Relieve Migraines

  • 1 2/3 ounceSt. John’swort
  • 1 ounce valerian
  • 1 ounce linden flowers
  • 1/4 ounce juniper berries

Place 1 teaspoon of the mixture in a cup of boiling water, Steep for 10 minutes, and strain. This tea helps improves circulation.

Relax – Try a tea with chamomile as the main ingredient.

Soothing a cold – try some tea with eucalyptus, ginger, cinnamon, and/or licorice root.
